Land Ecosystem: Among the studies conducted at Malpelo land extension are the records for the Pityrogramma dealbata shrubbery, lichens from the Caloplaca, Candelabria, Lecidea and Pyxine genera, including seven species (Graham, 1975). Though scanty, the vegetation in the island is supremely relevant for the development of the local life as many of the endemic species depend on it.
