The Park has two of the most diverse ecosystems in the tropics: coral reefs, which are the most developed in the eastern tropical Pacific, and rain forests. It also has a great variety of marine and terrestrial habitats, which guarantee considerable biological diversity in a relatively small island. From a biogeographic and ecological perspective, the island is an important area for conservation because it provides ecosystems for organisms with coastal, sea and mainland habits. It also has rocky bottoms as well as rocky and sandy shores.
