To preserve samples of ecosystems of dry forest, mangrove swamps, seagrass beds, and coral formations to contribute with the ecosystem integrity of the islands of Providencia and Santa Catalina, and with activities of conservation of the country’s ecosystem diversity and the provision of environmental goods and services.
To preserve sites and key species for the development of populations in order to maintain local and regional fishing productivity.
To protect habitats for populations of resident and migratory bird species to enable their survival.
To protect sites of scenic value that are emblematic of the islands of Providencia and Santa Catalina, in terms of their natural condition, aesthetic value and cultural significance, for recreation, contemplation and to preserve local identity.
