The terrestrial fauna of the Park consists mainly of reptiles like the iguana (Iguana iguana rhinolopha), the pennie lizard (Anolis pinchoti), the jack lizard (Ameiva ameiva folliginosa) and the rainbow whiptail lizard (Cnemidophorus lemnistcatus lemniscatus). There are also numerous species of resident and migratory birds, some like the magnificent frigatebird or man o’war (Fragata magnificens) nest in the volcanic cays. The only mammals in the Park are bats, including an endemic species. Marine animals are varied and include outstanding reef formations with a great many species of hard and soft corals and sea sponges, where numerous fish such as snapper, bass, parrot fish, triggerfish, surgeonfish and grunts live. Among the crustaceans, the Caribbean spiny lobster (Panulirus argus) stands out as does the queen conch (Strombus gigas) among the mollusks.
