To protect the representative sample of dry tropical forest in the Sanctuary, part of the natural and cultural heritage of the Magdalena River, Montes de Maria and Canal del Dique sub region.
To protect viable populations of fauna and flora species important to the region, which are recognized as vulnerable and threatened, and which are part of the Sanctuary’s ecosystems.
To protect the water sources of the Sanctuary for hydrological regulation in the sub region and to strengthen environmental services for the municipality of San Juan Nepomuceno.
