The Park is strategically located in the center of what is known as the Colombian Massif watershed, the most important watershed in the country. Three of the most important rivers of Colombia originate there, the Magdalena, Cauca and Caquetá rivers; the Quilcacé and Guachinoco rivers also originate in the Park, which are the main tributaries of the Patía river. El Buey, San Rafael and La Magdalena lagoons are the most impressive among the 30 lagoons in the Park.
