The forest conservation zone is recognized as a biodiversity conservation strip that is significant to the country. As a result of the different conservation sites in the area, the forest is highly connected and has different ecosystem altitude gradients; this makes the biodiversity registered and the ecosystem services it provides evident, particularly water supply for the municipalities of Pereira and Dosquebradas.
