Due to wetland conditions, there is a diversity of fauna with great variety of migratory and resident birds such as the Andean coot (Fulica ardesiaca), pied-billed grebe (Podylimbus podiceps), black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), rufous-collared sparrow (Zonotrichia capensis), red-crested cotinga (Amphelion rubroscristata), thrushes (Turdus fuscater and Turdus serranus), whitestarts (Myioborus melanocephalus and M. ornatus), slaty brush finch (Atlapetes schistaceus) and hummingbirds (Colibrí coruscans and Coeligena torquata). There is also a great number of colorful butterflies. There are 8 species of amphibians belonging to the Pristimantis genus and some small mammals such as wild mice (Thomasomys laniger and Aakodon sp.) and bats.
