The Sanctuary is a protected area that provides ecosystem goods and services associated to water resources, including the provision and regulation – quantity and quality – of water for 7 adjacent municipalities. Similarly, it provides cultural ecosystem services associated to the beauty of the landscape, which permits a connection between biodiversity and human wellbeing. It is also an important site as refuge, food source, reproduction and conservation of its flora and fauna species.
