Hiking

Telpis Trail: it shows the importance of high Andean forest and páramo where you can observe flora and fauna. The main attractions are the panoramic views of the mountains, including volcanoes like Chiles, Cumbal and Cotopaxi in neighboring Ecuador, wetlands and the beautiful Telpis lagoon (1.3 km, 2½ hours one way, medium difficulty).

Bird Watching

Colombia is the country with the most bird species in the world, which is why it is a touristic destination for amateur and professional bird watchers. The Sanctuary has 13 species of hummingbirds; 9 inhabit the protected area, one species is migratory and three others are rare.

Fauna and Flora Observation

It is the perfect place to observe fauna and flora such as the Galeras rain frog and the Nariño harlequin frog.

Research and Environmental Education

The exuberant nature of the protected area and its state of conservation make it an ideal place for scientific research. Additionally, as in all the parks with ecotourism, education institutions carry out environmental education activities in the park, as do the park rangers who speak to the visitors about the Park, its conservation objectives and ecotourism services and activities.

Photography and Video

The scenic beauty of the Sanctuary make it an ideal place for this activity, although, if the photos or video are intended for commercial use or publication, a permit must be obtained from Parques Nacionales Naturales.
