In 1984, the State bought the properties of the last 13 settlers who were still living inside the protected area, which is why there are currently no inhabitants in the Park. The closest village is Palestina (Huila) founded in 1937, and through which 90% of the visitors must pass to arrive to the Park. The rest of the visitors arrive through the San Adolfo route (Acevedo municipality). Adjacent communities are mainly composed of indigenous and peasant farmer populations.
